Quebec Does not Want Ottawa to Get Involved
News
According to today’s report from the Courrier parlementaire©, the Quebec Government is in doubt that the Federal Government’s strategy will efficiently comply to its housing assistance programs, and therefore wishes to make decisions for itself regarding the use of its allocated funds.
Yesterday in Ottawa, as part of a federal-provincial-territorial meeting involving the ministers responsible of the housing sector, the Housing Corporation pleaded by saying that « should this strategy be put forward, Quebec expects to receive its share of federal funds. »
It is important to note that the federal government’s budget has planned an investment of $2.3 billion over a period of two years to facilitate access to more affordable housing to Canadians.
CORPIQ agrees with the Quebec Government regarding the use of federal funds earmarked for housing assistance, in that they should be managed provincially. Currently, the two government bodies are conducting parallel consultations with citizens to determine the best way to use their budgets respectively.
