A property owner, who claimed damages from his tenant after she left his apartment without consent, has lost his case in the court of the Régie du Logement. During the hearing, the tenant submitted her exchange with the landlord on her Facebook account as proof of her notifying him of the termination of the lease and her departure. According to the landlord, the notice was invalid because this technological means of communication is not allowed. Well, this court case actually managed to create a precedent. The administrative judge ruled that the tenant had given a valid and sufficient notice via Facebook and the landlord acknowledged having received it.
