Updating Bill 51 to modernize the construction industry - a status report

News

On February 1, Minister Jean Boulet tabled a bill aimed at increasing productivity and efficiency in the organization of work in the construction industry. Our team made several representations to the offices of the Minister of Labour, the Minister of Housing and the opposition parties to request amendments to this legislation.

Updating Bill 51 to modernize the construction industry - a status report

CORPIQ would like to exempt renovation work on rental buildings in the light residential sector from the R-20 to promote agility in carrying out maintenance, repair and renovation work on rental buildings, limit costs and introduce a transparent, efficient system.

This leeway is necessary to maintain an affordable rental stock accessible to Quebecers, as well as to build new housing. CORPIQ followed the work of parliamentarians studying the bill, but unfortunately Minister Jean Boulet did not follow up on our requests. In addition to appeals, CORPIQ sent a letter signed by our president asking the Minister to reconsider his decision. We are continuing our representations and will keep you informed of developments.
