Real estate context in transformation: Quebec must get into solution mode
News
Last September, CORPIQ produced an impressive brief on the challenges that the housing sector is facing. Like many stakeholders, we proposed the designation of a Minister of Housing in the next government and to draw inspiration from Ontario by creating a concerted strategy for the sector. On October 20, the Prime Minister responded favourably to our first request when he formed his cabinet. This is good news for the housing community.
Now, it remains to structure a "package" of measures to modernize the laws and policies in order to develop the supply of housing and protect our rental stock. Upon reading the editorial in La Presse, there is a lot of work to be done. In 2022, housing starts are down in Quebec, while Ontario exceeds the 2021 results. The deficit in the supply and demand of housing is no longer to be demonstrated. It is necessary to mobilize all together to remedy the situation. And CORPIQ is in solution mode.
