5% of unpaid rents in June

The rate of unpaid rent in Quebec after the first week of June was 5%.
This is a clear decrease compared to the CORPIQ surveys conducted after the first week of April (14%) and May (9%).
The gradual resumption of employment and the payment of the Canada Emergency Benefit have certainly allowed many tenants whose income has fallen due to the crisis to regularize their situation for the payment of rent. On the other hand, a lease is a financial commitment that generally lasts 12 months and the future worries CORPIQ. The Canada Emergency Benefit will end, and it is unknown how employment and immigration will evolve.
The Government of Quebec, for its part, offers a Financial Assistance Program to tenants for the payment of their rent under COVID-19. This is a $1,500 loan from the SHQ, repayable by August 2021, interest-free. The application must be filed by July 15 by the tenant and the money is paid directly to the landlord for payment of rent.
