Reminder: Letter to send to tenants
News
As we can see every day, landlords of rental units are watching for the spread of the virus in buildings. With more than 19,000 confirmed cases of people with COVID-19 in Quebec, the chances of having infected tenants are real. It is important for everyone to take appropriate measures to protect us all.
Beyond the measures already put in place by landlords to inform their tenants and remind them of the hygiene measures to be respected, it is important for landlords to be informed if a tenant is infected with the virus.
Indeed, this will allow adequate measures to be taken in order to limit the spread of the virus in their building and to protect the tenant and accompany him or her in complete confidentiality. This surveillance situation is especially important in buildings that have common areas, including corridors, lobbies, and other transit areas.
Following numerous requests, CORPIQ has made available to its members a model letter to be communicated in a preventive manner to tenants, in order to inform them and make them aware of the importance of respecting these sanitary measures. This letter also asks people affected by COVID-19 to declare their state of healthto the building manager so that measures can be put in place, while respecting confidentiality.
It should be noted that there may be enforcement provisions taken against infected tenants who do not comply with the government quarantine requirements.
