Exasperation of owners expressed at the National Assembly

On September 19, the Member of the Official Opposition at the Parliament, Marwah Rizqy, presented the petition initiated by CORPIQ asking the CAQ Government to legalize the security deposit. This petition, which has collected 12,202 signatures, is the 6th most signed petition in the current legislation.
"56% of Quebec homeowners have at least one tenant who owes them money. The Régie du logement never or almost never allows them to repair the damage suffered, whether it is unpaid rent or damage to the dwelling. It is urgent that this culture of disempowerment in Quebec stop," said Hans Brouillette, CORPIQ's Director of Public Affairs.
CORPIQ is convinced that the legalization of security deposits would also reduce the approximately 45,000 causes of non-payment, eviction or damage that the Régie du logement has to deal with each year.
Quebec is the only place in Canada, and in the world, where no amount of security, of any kind, can be required from the tenant when signing the lease. Therefore, CORPIQ urges the Minister of Housing, Andrée Laforest, to add this amendment to Bill 16, currently under study.
