Knowing that landlords lose $250 million in unpaid rents and $150 million in housing damage each year, CORPIQ is convinced that this bill will not repair the damage incurred by landlords.
CORPIQ recommended approximately 20 measures that would reduce both pre-hearing and post-hearing administrative delays, as well as the other unnecessarily long delays imposed by law and the volume of litigation. Its main proposals were the following:
- Allow a security deposit to be required, which would encourage proper use of the dwelling and lead to amicable settlements between parties;
- Prohibit revocation requests for rulings ordering eviction for non-payment of rent, unless the tenant deposits his rent due;
- That court rulings be made at the hearing in cases of non-payment, instead of wasting an average of 12 days to "deliberate".
