Mandatory selective collection
The Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal wants to make selective collection mandatory by 2020, including organic matter (brown bins). Last fall during the public hearings led by the commission studying the project, CORPIQ explained that landlords do not want and will not be able to police their tenants, nor should they pay fines for those who do not respect the collection hours or the rules on what the different bins can contain.
A CORPIQ poll also revealed other problems such as a lack of space to store the bins and sanitary issues due to foul odours and vermin. This does not mean that landlords don’t care about the environment. On the contrary: 93% personally practice selective collection.
