Two important rulings handed down in October by the Régie du logement have restored a certain power of negotiation to landlords in renewing their leases with tenants. The housing board’s office of review overturned two rulings on rent-setting that had been made by a special clerk who had refused to order tenants to reimburse the landlords’ legal fees. And this despite the fact that they had successfully justified their calculation and received the rent increase requested to the court, in compliance with the prescribed schedule.
