Housing crisis: the solution begins with building more !

The housing crisis is affecting several Quebec regions and is not expected to subside in 2023. Mario Dumont's editorial summarizes well the problems and the importance of building new housing throughout Quebec.

Housing crisis: the solution begins with building more !

The imbalance between supply and demand is putting pressure on the real estate market that will not magically disappear. According to him, municipal administrations have become obstacles to the realization of projects. Zoning, permits and bureaucratic rules are now a hindrance on development. And now there are new special construction taxes... an incentive to slow down the addition of housing!

Furthermore, in the construction of rental housing, landlords are entering a highly regulated world where profit margins are minimal, and risks are not taken into account (e.g. rising interest rates!). In short, it's music to our ears knowing the challenges of our industry. For 2023, we can only hope that decision-makers will take the time to read this editorial and can devote the necessary energy to initiate real change in the housing sector.
