Bill to freeze rents in 2021

The left-wing party Québec solidaire has just tabled in the National Assembly Bill 496, which would, nothing less, cancel all current or future rent increases by landlords for a period of one year, from June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Of course, this bill does not give the possibility for landlords to recover the shortfall afterwards. In its great generosity (!), Québec solidaire proposes, however, that landlords who have already filed a request for the Tribunal to fix the rent, be reimbursed for the costs of filing the request.
